Key responsibilities include identifying community recreation needs and interests, developing and delivering recreation opportunities which meet these needs and interests, maintaining and operating recreational and cultural facilities to provide a setting for these activities, and managing the provision of space to external community providers and groups. Under the general guidance and direction of the Supervisor of Recreation Facilities, the Facility Operations Coordinator position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance and operations of the City of Barries community and recreation centres. Specifically, this position coordinates, prioritizes and assigns daily, specialized, or preventative operational and maintenance tasks; provides guidance and leadership to Recreation Facilities Section staff; and troubleshoots, responds to, and resolves inquiries, issues, or complaints regarding recreation facility operations and maintenance related matters. Overall, this position plays an integral role in coordinating routine maintenance and operational tasks within the Citys community and recreation centres in order to provide a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for recreation programs and activities. Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
  • Two (2) year College Diploma in Recreation and Leisure, Business Administration, or a related discipline OR
    • Certified Ice Technician (CIT) Designation from the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA); and
    • Certified Aquatic Technician (CAT) Designation from the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA); and
    • Certified Building Technician (CBT) Designation from the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA); and
    • Legal II Course from the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association
  • Refrigeration Operator Class B Certification from the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA)
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Certifications
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification

Experience
  • Five (5) years of experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position in a recreation facility operations and maintenance work environment, including:
    • demonstrated experience planning and implementing maintenance programs including seasonal startups and shutdowns
    • demonstrated experience developing solutions to address facility issues
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
  • Working knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements:
    • Health Protection and Promotion Act
    • Occupational Health and Safety Act
    • Occupiers Liability Act
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • exert effort to lift, push, pull, or carry objects for short periods of time
    • exert effort to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, reaching, grasping, bending forward, stooping, kneeling, crouching or turning
    • maintain a high standard of public relations at all times
    • perform in a manner which is consistent with corporate goals, vision, mission, and values
    • work independently with minimal supervision
  • Intermediate verbal communication, written communication, customer service, teamwork, attention to detail, and time management skills
  • Intermediate computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, and Word), integrated facility systems, lighting controls, environmental systems, security systems, computerized maintenance management systems software, and building automation systems
  • Availability to work outside of scheduled work hours to perform standby/on-call or emergency response duties

Other Important Information Location: Allandale Recreation Centre, 190 Bayview Drive, Barrie, ON Hours: The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement Wage: This position is within the CUPE Local 2380 Bargaining Unit with the following pay level and 2025 pay range:
  • Pay Level: Level 8
  • Yearly Salary: $84,676.80 to $101,504.00
  • Hourly Pay Rate: $40.71 to $48.80
