The Payroll Team Lead provides leadership and operational oversight for the delivery of full-cycle payroll, pension, and benefits services by ensuring accurate, compliant, and efficient processes while leading a high-performing payroll team and driving continuous improvement.

• Lead and oversee the full-cycle payroll, pension, and benefits operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing, reconciliations, reporting, and statutory remittances.
• Supervise, coach, and develop a team of multiple payroll professionals by setting daily priorities, assigning work, monitoring performance, and fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and service excellence.
• Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and institutional payroll regulations, policies, and internal controls by overseeing audits, regulatory reporting, pension obligations, and payroll reconciliations.
• Leverage expertise with the Banner ERP system to support payroll operations, troubleshoot complex issues, optimize system functionality, participate in testing and system enhancements, and ensure data integrity across payroll processes.
• Partner with Finance, Human Resources, and internal stakeholders to resolve complex payroll issues, provide operational reporting, manage service expectations, and support informed decision-making.
• Drive continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements, implementing best practices, optimizing payroll systems and reporting capabilities, and supporting the development of policies, procedures, service level agreements, and key performance indicators.
• Support payroll-related projects, system implementations, upgrades, and testing activities by collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver sustainable solutions that improve operational efficiency and service delivery.

Qualifications

• Payroll certification required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience processing full-cycle Canadian payroll.
• At least 2 years of experience in a senior payroll, lead, or subject matter expert capacity.
• Experience working with Banner ERP in a configuration, support, or implementation environment is required.
• Experience in high-volume, multi-cycle payroll environments is considered an asset.
• Accounting or payroll reconciliation experience is an asset.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
