Our client, a privately held family-owned real estate company based in Calgary is seeking a Human Resources Manager to support their expanding operations and company culture.

Human Resources Manager

The Human Resources Manager will oversee day-to-day HR operations for the company’s real estate and hospitality businesses with over 150 employees. This role is responsible for payroll and benefits administration; recruitment, hiring, and employee retention; SOP development and operational standardization; technology, training and creative operational support; and employee relations and compliance.

The ideal candidate will be forward-thinking and comfortable using technology creatively to improve operations, employee training, communication, and retention.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Payroll & Benefits Administration

  • Process payroll accurately and on time for the real estate and family entertainment division;
  • Maintain payroll records and employee files;
  • Coordinate employee benefits administration and enrollments;
  • Respond to payroll and benefits inquiries from employees;
  • Ensure compliance with payroll laws, deductions, and reporting requirements.

Recruitment, Hiring & Employee Retention

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment and hiring processes;
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard employees across multiple departments;
  • Develop hiring strategies focused on long-term employee success and retention;
  • Create and maintain structured onboarding programs;
  • Support employee wellness, engagement, and workplace satisfaction initiatives;
  • Assist management with workforce planning and staffing needs;
  • Build a positive, supportive, and professional workplace culture.

SOP Development & Operational Standardization

  • Develop, organize, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across company operations;
  • Standardize procedures related to hiring, onboarding, payroll, and HR administration, asset management, sales, business operations and administrative workflows;
  • Create training materials and operational documentation for staff reference;
  • Ensure consistency and efficiency across departments and locations.

Technology, Training & Creative Operational Support

  • Utilize technology and digital tools to improve training and communication;
  • Create staff training videos and instructional materials for internal use;
  • Develop easy-to-follow operational guides and digital resources for employees;
  • Support modernization and streamlining of HR and operational systems.

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for employee questions and concerns;
  • Support conflict resolution and workplace investigations when required;
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive employee information;
  • Ensure compliance with Alberta labour laws, employment standards, workplace policies, and HR best practices;
  • Maintain accurate HR databases and personnel records;
  • Assist with health and safety documentation and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, and 10+ years of human resources and payroll experience working in real estate, hospitality, entertainment, or a family-owned business; strong knowledge of Alberta labour laws, employment standards, and human resources best practices; experience processing payroll for multi-employee organizations; experience in recruitment, employee retention, onboarding and workplace wellness initiatives; experience developing standard operating procedures, operation documentation and training systems. The candidate will be comfortable using technology, apps, and video tools for employee training and communication; will have strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills; is a leader with a high level of discretion and professionalism with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP designation) and knowledge of the Push Platform are considered assets.
