Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

The Intern, Finance & Accounting will support the Corporate Governance Team in special projects, internal controls, gap remediation, internal control project and audits, process improvement projects relating to finance and accounting operations. This role is ideal for students looking to apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges in a dynamic environment.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 115 Carrie Cates Court, North Vancouver.

What youll do

  • Assist in gathering information, analyze data to support development in special projects.
  • Assist in ICFR process documentation and gap remediation.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to support decision-making.
  • Help maintain accurate records of bank guarantees and parent company guarantees.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct research and contribute to special projects, such as internal process reviews and audits.
  • Support the implementation of accounting software tools and processes.
  • Perform general administrative tasks as needed.

What youll bring

  • Enrollment in a Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related degree program.
  • Previous internship experience or coursework in finance/accounting.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with other accounting tools/software (e.g., JD Edwards).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to collaborate with teams across operating divisions to gather information for the reports and analyze results.
  • Being proactive. Self-motivated to learn new concepts and participate in new projects.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is an advantage.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
