We are currently seeking an Associate Wealth Advisor to join our team.

The Associate Wealth Advisor (AWA) supports a Senior Wealth Advisor (SWA) and to give clients professional investment advice and comprehensive financial planning to a portfolio of high value members. This is a unique opportunity to be the right-hand person to a leading advisor. In this role, you will be circled into critical decisions with respect to members as well as managing the practice. Some common tasks would be responding to client account inquiries, trading or portfolio rebalancing, creating and updating financial plans, liaison with accountants to provide detailed tax information, updating “Know Your Client” KYC information, researching investments and doing comparisons. This is also a mentorship opportunity as this team is well recognized for raising the bar with respect to servicing the High-Net-Worth segment.

Accountabilities (in coordination with Senior Wealth Advisor)

  • Member Transactions: Ensures member accounts are opened and transactions/purchases completed accurately and within required timeframes; maintains up to date member files with all required documentation.
  • Sales and Service Strategy: Provides complex financial planning advice on a wide range of investment products and services to high value current and potential members, utilizing financial planning tools provided; identifies needs based on member life cycle and provides appropriate investment vehicles; create bi-weekly newsletter that is emailed to clients and potential clients; conducts follow-up interviews with members on their portfolio on an annual basis to identify changes in circumstances that would require alternate investment option.
  • Risk Management: Provides advice and acts in accordance with ethical standards, Aviso policies and applicable regulatory requirements ensuring that risk to the member and First West are minimized; maintains compliance with First West audit and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Leadership: Builds relationship with branch employees and provides subject matter expertise and/or mentoring when required; schedules and facilitates product knowledge sessions with members and/or branch employees. Provides leadership and coaching to administrative employees to help drive a consistent member experience and enhance revenue.
  • Business Development: Establishes and maintains relationships with existing members, within portfolio; networks with external business organizations in the community to generate referrals; pursues relationships with potential new members and actively promotes the full range of First West products and services through participation in community initiatives and events.

People/Thought Leadership

  • No direct supervisory responsibility

Qualifications

  • College, Trade or Tech School Diploma (2 years) in related discipline required
  • IIROC Registered Representative licensing required
  • Life Insurance Qualifying Program (LLQP) required within 1 year of accepting the role.
  • Completion of Canadian Securities Course, CPH & Wealth Management Essentials required within 1 year of accepting the role.
  • Financial planning designation: CFP, PFP, CFA or industry equivalent designation in good standing required within 2 years of accepting the role.
  • 2-4 years in an investment/financial planning and advisory position
  • Strong familiarity with financial planning tools/software required
  • Proven superior knowledge of a wide range of investment products and services preferred

  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Proven networking and relationship building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of people

Skills

  • Ability to analyze financial statements
  • Proficient with computer software programs, e.g. Microsoft Office

Travel

  • Overnight travel is required 7-12 times per year

Risk Management

  • Displays an understanding of risk and risk ownership by being able to demonstrate adherence to policies and procedures.
