Accounting Assistant
Winnipeg, Manitoba
Located in downtown Winnipeg at The Forks, TRAF (Teachers’ Retirement Allowances Fund) is seeking an Accounting Assistant to join their finance team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer & Chief Risk Officer, this role provides support to pension payments, accounting and member services functions through the accurate processing of pension payments, deposits, reporting activities and financial transactions. As the Accounting Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting day-to-day pension administration and accounting processes while ensuring accuracy, compliance and exceptional service to TRAF members and stakeholders.
The Accounting Assistant is Responsible For:
- Managing and maintaining clerical workload for the Finance department.
- Supporting accounts payable administration and related financial processes.
- Performing data entry, verification and quality assurance activities.
- Processing and posting journal entries.
- Digitizing, scanning and maintaining departmental documentation and records.
- Administering and maintaining tracking systems and financial records.
- Assisting with pension-related financial transactions, reconciliations and reporting.
- Preparing and processing statutory remittances and government billings.
- Supporting year-end administration and reporting activities.
- Providing administrative support to ensure accurate and efficient department operations.
You and Your Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in an accounting or administrative environment.
- Experience working with accounting software; MS Dynamics or similar financial systems experience is an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Knowledge of accounting principles and financial transaction processing.
- Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Process-oriented with strong organizational skills and a commitment to accuracy.
- High personal and professional integrity, accountability and a service-oriented approach.
