Role Description The Wills and Estate Lawyer will provide comprehensive legal services in estate planning, estate administration, and related matters for individual and family clients. Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting wills, powers of attorney, trusts, and other estate planning documents, advising clients on tax-efficient strategies, and ensuring compliance with relevant provincial and federal legislation. The role involves managing probate and estate administration files, communicating with beneficiaries and other stakeholders, and representing clients in negotiations or court proceedings related to estates when needed. The lawyer will participate in client consultations, maintain accurate and organized file records, and collaborate with colleagues across practice areas to address complex client needs. This is a full-time, on-site role located in Mississauga, ON.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of Wills & Estates law, including estate planning, probate, trusts, and powers of attorney.
- Demonstrated experience drafting and reviewing wills, trusts, and related legal documents with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple files, meet deadlines, and maintain organized case records in a fast-paced legal environment.
- Excellent client-facing skills, including clear communication, active listening, and a professional, empathetic approach.
- Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities to address complex estate planning and administration issues.
- Capacity to work collaboratively with other lawyers and staff while also handling matters independently and exercising sound judgment.
- Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO); several years of experience in Wills & Estates strongly preferred.
- Experience in related areas such as Family Law, Real Estate, or Business Law is an asset, particularly for integrated client solutions.
- Proficiency with legal practice management software and standard office applications; ability to adapt to new technologies.
- Ability to serve a diverse client base; knowledge of additional languages beyond English is considered an asset.
