This is a field-based role supporting generators, motors, and related electromechanical systems. You’ll work on customer sites delivering winding inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair services. All travel, per diem, hotels and flights (where required) are paid for. This role will ideally suita a contractor/freelance candidate who is not seeking permanent/full-time work.
What you’ll do
- Inspect, test, maintain, and repair high-voltage generator windings on-site.
- Carry out basic mechanical strip-down and rebuild to access windings, plus electrical testing on high- and low-voltage systems.
- Perform visual inspections of stators, rotors, and excitation systems, including in-situ repairs such as stator re-wedging.
- Support full stator strip-and-rewind projects as part of a team and assist mechanical service engineers when required.
- Supervise and train both internal teams and customer personnel.
- Interpret technical drawings and specifications, prepare method statements and clear reports, and attend technical meetings.
- Complete a full on-site risk assessment for every assignment.
What you’ll need
- At least 3 years of field service experience on generators/turbines/motors.
- Competency with hand tools, multimeters, meggers, rigging equipment, generator-specific tooling, and HIPot testing.
- Experience working on air-, hydrogen-, and liquid-cooled generators in both 2-pole and 4-pole configurations
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively
