Shelter Coordinator

This is a unique opportunity to join the management and coordinator team of an innovative not-for-profit, in an environment that is committed to promoting continuous learning, creativity and collaboration.

Reporting to the Manager of Housing and Shelters, the Coordinator works to support a strong, consistent, and cohesive shelter and services team. The Coordinator supervises the Frontline Supervisors (FLS), supporting them to orientate, coach, and foster team work with the Mental Health Workers (MHW) and Client Service Workers (CSW). The Coordinator works collaboratively with other departments within the buildings, including the Janitorial and Maintenance, Food Services, and Scheduling departments. This position also oversees the Transitional Housing Programs and works with the Manager on other programming initiatives.

A major leadership requirement of the position is to support staff in the provision of services that align with the Societys vision, values, and guiding principles, particularly through the lens of our clients and community partners.

The successful applicant will have comprehensive knowledge of mental health and addictions best practices and resources, supportive housing and/or emergency shelter regulations, service delivery models and community collaboration.

A narrow selection of the larger scope and responsibilities for this position are as follows:

  • Direct supervision of FLSs in the performance of all duties.
  • Integrate CSWs in day-to-day shelter operations with an increased internal ‘in-reach focus on chronic shelter users.
  • Model and facilitate clear, respectful, and timely communication.
  • Mentor direct reports with regular and ongoing formal and informal coaching and feedback, including the completion of regular performance reviews.
  • Work with Manager and HR to review quarterly absenteeism and leave management information.
  • Collaborate with HR on collective agreement guidance, classifications, position changes, job descriptions, wage changes, etc.
  • Coordinate with Scheduling department to ensure staff levels are maintained and oversee vacation and stat requests.
  • Coordinate day-to-day delivery of transitional services.
  • Liaise with Property Services Advisor for move in and move out, paperwork and rent payments.
  • Work with CSWs, MHWs and FLSs to ensure clients are meeting program requirements.
  • Implement and support new processes, and improvements to current processes, in view of achieving program effectiveness and consistency.
  • Maintain positive stakeholder relationships with local community organizations, agencies, and individuals.
  • Investigate and, whenever possible, ensure the successful resolution of complaints.

  • Excellent knowledge of supportive housing and/or emergency shelter regulations, service delivery models and community collaboration.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to evaluate programs and services considering client needs, service delivery interrelationships, and service potential within a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work in a continuously changing environment, identify variances, and implement strategies to achieve desired outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Baccalaureate degree in related human services, administrative field, or a combination of training and experience.

Experience

  • More than three (3) years experience within a not-for-profit community social services context.
  • A minimum of two (2) years progressively senior leadership experience within a multi-service complex organization.

Requirements

  • Complete the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid class 5 BC Drivers licence and a clean drivers abstract.

Job Information

  • Salary: $77,314 per annum.
  • Work Location: 535 Ellice St - Rock Bay Landing.
  • Work Days: Wednesday - Saturday with a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Shift Times: 7:00am - 5:00pm
  • Weekly Hours: 40 hours per week.
  • Union: Exempt.
  • Benefits: Eligible for 100% employer paid benefits including health and dental care.
  • Job Type: Temporary - Full-time.
