OpportunityMacEwan University is seeking an Emergency Management Coordinator for an 11-month non-recurring term opportunity with the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). You will support the Universitys Emergency Management program by enhancing readiness, response, and recovery efforts while coordinating with the Emergency Management Team and other stakeholders. You will participate in planning, training, and operational activities, while aligning with the Universitys preparedness initiatives and best practices. Acting as a liaison with external partners, other post-secondary institutions and government agencies, the role strengthens relationships and ensures emergency protocols remain effective and adaptive.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating administrative tasks related to Emergency Planning and preparedness activities, such as training, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and updating key documents for the Emergency Management Team;
- Maintaining and supporting internal and external stakeholders such as the Crisis Management Team, external agencies and post-secondary institutions regarding emergency preparedness;
- Maintaining the Emergency Operations Centre to ensure the facility, assets, product shelf life, advancement in equipment, backup files, and communications supplies are always in operational readiness to support the Crisis Management Team;
- Establishing mechanisms to review the emergency program and its plans to continuously improve emergency management programs and activities;
- Conducting research and making recommendations regarding best practices with respect to emergency preparedness;
- Planning, coordinating, overseeing and reviewing emergency tabletop exercises and training sessions during the year;
- Administering and coordinating emergency preparedness training sessions that assist the University community in effectively preparing for and responding to emergencies;
- Reviewing and making changes to the safety app to ensure it remains current and effective for emergency communication;
- Providing support services to the Emergency Management Team by assisting with managing the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) if a significant risk event occurs;
- Participating in the integration of corrective actions and reporting program improvements to the Emergency Management Manager, to enhance emergency management plans and ensure continuous program improvement; and
- Participating in the creation of debriefing reports, including drafting reports and monitoring the status of the OEM budget;

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in writing plans, protocols, and reports;
- The capability to plan, coordinate, and execute projects within established timelines and resources; and
- Knowledge of procedures, emergency management standards and best practices.
- A minimum of diploma in emergency, disaster management or risk reduction.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in emergency management, disaster planning, or business continuity.
- An Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP) certification or equivalent would be considered an asset.
- The completion of Incident Command System (ICS) Levels 100 and 200 would be considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
