Job Description: RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be responsible for serving male clients with addictions and concurrent disorders at our live-in treatment centre in Kingston, Ontario:
  • Group Facilitation
  • Teaching Classes
  • One-on-one Counselling
  • Development of treatment plans based on client-centred recovery goals
  • Assessment and Intake as needed
  • Networking with local agencies
  • Crisis/Conflict Intervention
  • Record-keeping and note taking
  • Discharge Planning
  • After-care Follow-up
  • Team Consultation and Decision-Making
  • Case Management skills
  • On-call responsibilities
  • Maintain a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle while on Salvation Army property and while working
· Participate in all staff meetings by attendance and giving input for improvement of program and operation · Participate in regular direct supervision with immediate supervisor and comply by attending to noted areas needing improvement to ensure maximum job performance QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES: Educational Requirements: · Undergraduate degree or diploma from a recognized institution (in one of the human services professions), including qualifications to enter a Provincial Regulated College. Masters/Graduate Training an asset Certifications: · NVCI and CPR/First Aid certified preferred. · A successful Vulnerable Sector Check as per Salvation Army Policies and Procedures. · Ability to have PROTECTED B clearance · Experience: · Minimum 3 years experience working in the addiction/mental health sector · Working with criminally-involved population · Theoretical Knowledge: · Understanding of the continuum of addiction and concurrent disorders · Understanding of trauma in relation to substance use and mental health · Knowledge of cultural awareness practices · Knowledge of the correctional services · Awareness of issues around and experience in dealing with concurrent disorders, marginalized populations, abstinence-based treatment, and harm reduction strategies Practical Skills: · Knowledge and experience in substance abuse counselling interventions/treatment models · Knowledge and experience in conducting assessments using MOH assessment tools, individual and group counselling, and case management · Knowledge and understanding of relapse prevention, life skills, mental health recovery, and crisis management · The ability to provide effective individual counselling, process group facilitation, and psycho-educational group facilitation ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The candidate should be a flexible, reliable, mature and compassionate professional who: · Has excellent communication skills · Has an appreciation for diversity · Works effectively · Possesses good judgment and problem-solving skills · Is committed to professional development · Is able to effectively network in the community · Must be supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army The Salvation Army offers accommodation for applicants with disabilities in its recruitment process.
