As the Street Light Design Leader, you will develop the policy, standard and short to medium-term strategy for Calgary Mobility/Streetlight design while leading a team who are responsible for critical street light infrastructure. You will be a Responsible Member for street light design and will provide professional authentication of drawings produced by the team. You will also coordinate the design, construction and maintenance of the street light system; develop and maintain the Design Guidelines, Construction Standard and material catalogue; review and approve all new subdivisions and development permits to ensure compliance to standards; and prepare and monitor budgets. Primary duties include:

  • Monitor maintenance and operations of street light system including monitoring 311, outage map and work with the maintenance contractor to provide direction on technical repairs and ensure Service Level agreement timelines are met.
  • Respond to council, internal and public inquiries, responding to emails, letters, and memos from all interested parties and responding to 311 inquiries.
  • Administer the capital and operating budgets for service level agreement, electricity, claims/recoveries, and lifecycle planning.
  • Ensure applicable standards are followed by engineering and technical staff.
  • Authenticate street light designs (development permits, lifecycle work, 311s, etc.) and review third-party street light projects from internal business units to plan, design and implement enhancements to roadway system.
  • Supervise, recruit, hire, train, mentor and performance management of staff.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • You must have at least 5 years of experience specializing streetlight and electrical obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
  • Competency in the following software: AGI32, ArcGIS, CROWM and bluebeam is required.
  • A valid Class 5 Drivers License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending is required.
  • Exhibited robust competencies in analytical reasoning, cooperative engagement and fostering of interpersonal connections, client-centered service, effective discourse, and a constructive outlook.
Pre-employment Requirements
  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operators permit.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
