Product Development Engineering Manager

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Product Development Manager to join our dynamic client in the manufacturing industry. Were looking for a Manager of Product Engineering to lead a team of engineers and technical staff focused on developing new products and improving existing ones. Youll play a key role in ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability across all product development stages.

Reports To: Director, Product Engineering

Key Responsibilities:

People Leadership

• Build and retain a skilled engineering team
• Oversee performance management, direct supervision, and recruitment

Project Management

• Develop and track project plans
• Monitor timelines, allocate resources, and manage budgets

Engineering Oversight

• Ensure product quality through prototyping, testing, and problem-solving
• Reduce post-launch issues

Product Development

• Apply sound engineering principles to design and launch new products
• Collaborate with suppliers to improve manufacturability and reduce costs
• Validate performance through rigorous testing and certifications
• Maintain quality standards (ISO, UL, CSA, BIFMA, etc.)

Workflow & Process Optimization

• Improve internal processes for faster time-to-market
• Use technology and clear workflows to boost efficiency and reduce errors
• Manage the ECR/ECO process for product changes

Product Improvement

• Support ongoing improvements in quality, cost, and manufacturability

Requirements:

• Proven experience leading a product development team in a manufacturing environment
• Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
• Experience with plastic injection molded products, fabricated metal tubes, welded assemblies, polyurethane foam molded parts, and sewn goods
• Engineering degree or equivalent technical education
