About the position

The Supervisor of Operations oversees a crew of 5 operations workers with respect to operations and human resources. S/he ensures the safety of people and operations, along with the enforcement of operating standards, policies and procedures. S/he also ensures the integrity and compliance of operating equipment and reports all issues or abnormalities.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures safe and efficient Terminal operations; promotes safety and prevents incidents.
  • Ensures compliance with environmental standards and operates within established parameters.
  • Communicates with his/her crew each day; sets goals, identifies issues and defines actions plans.
  • Ensures compliance with HR policies and the collective agreement.
  • Ensures safe coverage of all shifts based on operating needs, taking action in case of absences.
  • Reports any incident, departure from standards or abnormal operations and participates in reviewing resulting reports.
  • Documents such activities as producing lockout lists and installed blanking plate lists, valve alignments following transfers, work permits issued, etc.
  • Ensures that planned inspections are conducted, ensures preventive operations work and ensures documentation.
  • Ensures skill development and maintenance among crew members, particularly through the Development Program and required training programs.
  • Issues a daily activity follow-up report to his/her director; ensures effective succession and good coordination with colleagues.
  • Ensures management and/or monitoring of such special projects as the development of procedures, specific training programs, etc.
  • Adopts an inspiring and motivating attitude, fostering his/her crew’s commitment to meeting established goals.
  • Acts as Head of Emergency Operations.

Qualifications

  • Diploma of Collegial Studies in Chemical Process Engineering or another relevant field.
  • At least 8 to 10 years’ practical experience in the production, maintenance and transshipment of petroleum products.
  • Knowledge of OHS rules and environmental standards applicable to the petroleum sector.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities; knows how to mobilize and develop a crew.
  • Troubleshooting and decision-making abilities.
  • Can organize and monitor his/her crew’s work.
  • Understands control room tools (DCS Experion).
  • Basic software skills (Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Functional bilingualism (verbal and written).

 

* The incumbent must be available to work 12-hour rotating, day/night and 24/7 shifts.

However, knowledge of English is considered necessary for performing the tasks of this position.  The individual in this position will be required to review documents and interact both verbally and in writing with colleagues at the head office in Texas or in other Canadian provinces, or with various stakeholders such as customers, suppliers, unilingual anglophone business partners.
