Description

We are looking for a Mold Design Engineer with hands-on experience building and modifying 3D mold designs. The Mold Designer designs and develops both injection molds and custom blow molds and trim dies and related components from part drawings, math data or verbal specifications within specified parameters.

You will also work with Tool Makers to see design through completion. You will translate concept designs and sketches into fully designed concept models and production tooling. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge manufacturing projects, utilizing advanced CAD software and engineering principles to deliver precise and reliable mold designs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The day to day will vary based on 4 key streams of work:

1. New Mold Design

  • Review customer RFQs, prepare quotes, and begin design work once awarded.
  • Reverse‑engineer existing products by taking precise measurements using hand tools and metrology equipment.
  • Develop detailed 3D bottle models and complete mold designs in CAD.
  • Produce 3D models and 2D drawings for both CNC machining and manual machining operations.
  • Collaborate closely with tool and die makers to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet production requirements.

2. Plastic Injection Mold Tooling (Coat Molding)

  • Evaluate new product requests and prepare cost estimates.
  • Analyze customer parts and engineering dimensions to create preliminary tooling concepts.
  • Lead DFM (Design for Manufacturability) reviews and guide customers through engineering considerations.
  • Serve as the engineering gatekeeper—reviewing, validating, and approving all engineering-related inputs and outputs.

3. Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)

  • Review modification requests for existing products.
  • Communicate with customers to clarify requirements and translate them into actionable engineering change lists.
  • Update designs and documentation accordingly to implement approved changes.

4. General Tooling Design (≈10%)

  • Support the design and improvement of tooling and fixtures used across manufacturing processes.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in injection mold design is required
  • Proven experience in injection mold design is required
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with expertise in SolidWorks
  • Able to proficiently complete mold designs and surfacing in SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of schematics, GD&T, CNC programming, and industrial schematics
  • Strong understanding of 3D assembly modeling principles
  • Experience developing detailed drawings and mechanical schematics
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently

Additional Skills and Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of blow mold design
  • Mechanical engineering degree preferred
  • AutoCAD 2D
  • Experience working with the tool shop
  • Tooling Design
  • CNC machining and programming
  • Flow analysis

Work Environment:

Full-time, fully on-site in Maple Ridge.

Hours: 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, Monday to Friday.

No weekend work required.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $66560.00 - $81120.00/yr.
