Biomass Manager - Northern Division

SiteTalent is hiring on behalf of our client, a leading provider of sustainable biomass solutions in Northern BC, focused on transforming forestry residuals into high quality wood fiber to be used in energy co-generation. With a commitment to environmental responsibility, safety and operational excellence, they supply biomass materials to domestic and international energy markets.

The Role:

Our client is seeking a senior operational leader to own production outcomes across their Northern Division biomass operations. This is a high-accountability role focused on planning, sequencing, commitment, and delivery of production targets, not routine day-to-day supervision. The role requires regular travel between Williams Lake, Smithers, Mackenzie, and McBride, including visits to remote sites. You will report directly to the Director of Operations.

The Biomass Operations Manager serves as the single point of accountability for output, utilization, and operational margin across Northern operations. This role translates strategic objectives into executable weekly and monthly plans, ensures work is fully ready before execution, and proactively removes constraints that could impact delivery.

Responsibilities:

Production Planning & Commitment

  • Own weekly and monthly production plans and targets for Northern operations
  • Develop forward-looking schedules covering sequencing, volumes, resources, KPIs, and constraints
  • Lead Northern inputs into monthly production commitment processes
  • Lock commitments and drive accountability for delivery

Constraint Identification & Risk Management

  • Identify risks in advance, including access, permits, weather, manpower, equipment, and trucking
  • Assign ownership and timelines for constraint removal
  • Escalate unresolved constraints with mitigation options

External Coordination

  • Manage key external stakeholders, including landowners, regulators, subcontractors, and partners
  • Secure access and approvals ahead of mobilization
  • Act as the primary Northern operational point of contact

Resource Alignment & Utilization

  • Align crews, equipment, trucking, and maintenance with production plans
  • Monitor utilization and bottlenecks and adjust sequencing proactively
  • Identify resourcing gaps early and drive mitigation actions

Performance Tracking

  • Track planned vs. actual production
  • Lead variance reviews and define recovery actions
  • Maintain clear reporting on progress, risks, and forecast-to-complete

Leadership & Field Support

  • Reinforce disciplined operating cadence (plan, commit, execute, measure, recover)
  • Provide direction and decision support to field execution leadership
  • Step into field-level execution as required to unblock issues and maintain momentum

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in operations or production management, preferably in forestry, biomass, or heavy equipment sector
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Ability to travel to remote sites
  • Flexible schedule
  • Knowledge of forestry practices and biomass processing in BC is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with experience managing field teams in remote or industrial environments.
  • Solid understanding of BC environmental regulations, safety standards ( e.g., WorkSafeBC), and logging site protocols.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with reporting tools, production tracking, and basic budgeting.

The Perks:

  • Competitive Base Salary: $100,000 - $110,000 CAD + up to 100% bonus
  • Performance Bonus: Target bonus 100% of base salary, uncapped. Bonus tied directly to production output, utilization, margin, and delivery against committed plans.
  • Extended health and dental benefits
