*Job Description*

Tl’azt’en Nation is seeking a caring, organized, and community minded Elders Coordinator to support the planning and delivery of Elders programs, activities, and services.

This is a meaningful role for someone who values Elders, culture, language, tradition, and community connection. The Elders Coordinator will be responsible for planning social, recreational, cultural, and wellness activities for Tl’azt’en Elders, while helping ensure Elders are supported, included, and connected to community life.

The Elders Coordinator will also help form and support an Elders Committee to guide future programming and ensure Elders’ voices, knowledge, and priorities are reflected in the program.

*About the Role*

The Elders Coordinator will plan, organize, and deliver Elders programming that supports connection, wellbeing, cultural engagement, and intergenerational learning. This includes organizing meetings, events, trips, cultural activities, and opportunities for Elders to participate in health, wellness, culture, language, and education initiatives.

This role requires strong planning skills, respect for Elders and Knowledge Holders, confidentiality, cultural awareness, and the ability to work flexible hours when required.

*Duties and Responsibilities*

Create and support an Elders Committee to help guide the Elders Program.

Plan, coordinate, and manage Elders programs based on community needs and Elders’ priorities.

Develop a long term Elders Program plan.

Prepare and schedule monthly Elders meetings, including agendas, minutes, follow up items, and meeting coordination.

Prepare quarterly reports on activities for review with the Executive Director and Chief and Council.

Work with the direct supervisor to determine expenditures and maintain the program budget.

Organize Elders activities, gatherings, field trips, berry and medicine gathering, cultural outings, and other events.

Support Elders participating in activities, programs, and events to ensure safety, inclusion, and cultural engagement.

Encourage Elders’ involvement in Health and Wellness, Culture, Language, and Education programming.

Help connect Elders with youth and support intergenerational knowledge sharing.

Build relationships with neighbouring Nations’ Elders groups and support jointly operated activities or events.

Prepare and submit funding proposals to external funding sources.

Maintain program records, reports, schedules, budgets, and related documentation.

Use computer systems, email, word processing, and basic budgeting tools as required.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

*Qualifications*

Post secondary education in social work, health sciences, community services, Indigenous studies, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Traditional Dakelh knowledge and experience working with Elders and Knowledge Holders may be considered in place of post secondary education.

Experience planning, developing, and delivering programs or community activities.

Strong planning, organizational, time management, conflict resolution, and problem solving skills.

Ability to work respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Holders, youth, families, staff, and community members.

Knowledge of Tl’azt’en Nation culture and community, or willingness to learn.

Computer literacy, including email, Microsoft Word, basic reporting, and budget tracking.

Ability to prepare reports, meeting minutes, schedules, and funding proposals.

Class 4 Driver’s Licence is preferred for road trips.

Class 5 Driver’s Licence is required.

Own reliable vehicle.

Ability to work flexible hours and travel for meetings, events, and Elders activities.

Willingness to participate in on call work as required.
