Overview
Are you passionate about medication safety and quality improvement? If you would like to join a small, supportive team who are focused on reducing potential harms associated with medicines and promoting innovative practice to improve the way medicines are stored, prescribed, supplied and administered; while also taking the opportunity to support extensive education and training developments across the organisation, then this post is for you. The Medicines Governance team work across NHSGGC, in conjunction with a wide range of healthcare providers, to ensure medicines are used safely and effectively. This post is aligned to the South Sector of the Acute division and will work under the Lead Pharmacist, Medicines Governance for Clyde & South. Each sector has a Safer Use of Medicines Group which is part of the formal Governance structure and a key forum to develop and monitor medicines governance issues and prioritise activities. Priority areas of activity include safer prescribing and administration of medicines in hospitals and at the interfaces of care.
Responsibilities
Providing advice and guidance to healthcare staff on safe, effective, person-centred use of medicine leading and supporting quality improvement activities to deliver best practice and reduce potential harms associated with medicines
Identifying and sharing learning from medication incidents e.g. as reported on Datix or through Significant Adverse Event Reviews to support systemic improvements in care and mitigate risk
The post also includes a commitment to the Pharmacy Education and Training team (20% of post). This part of the role will involve working with local and regional partners to deliver support for a variety of workforce development programmes including but not restricted to:
Trainee pharmacists undertaking their Foundation Training Year
Foundation pharmacists undertaking their post-registration Foundation programme
Student pharmacists on placements as part of MPharm programmes
The post also encompasses a clinical commitment (20% of post), currently based in the QEUH site.
Barriers and Personal Development
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of medication systems and processes coupled with excellent communication and motivational skills to inspire and facilitate services to make changes which improve care. Your base will be QEUH, but travel to other sites in NHSGGC will be required. We will support you to continually identify and meet your personal development needs to undertake this role successfully.
