*Overview*
The Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) provides trauma-informed, person-centered mental health support to children and youth, with a preference for those who have experience supporting children and youth in care. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the RPN supports emotional, behavioral, psychiatric, and developmental needs through assessment, intervention, consultation, and care planning.

This role promotes stability, wellness, skill development, and positive outcomes for children and youth with complex mental health, behavioral, developmental, and trauma-related needs, while aligning practice with harm reduction, attachment-based, and culturally responsive approaches.

*Clinical Assessment & Mental Health Support*

* Complete mental health and psychosocial assessments to identify strengths, needs, risks, and supports.
* Support development and implementation of individualized care plans, behavior support strategies, and crisis response plans.
* Monitor psychiatric symptoms, emotional regulation, and mental wellness, providing therapeutic interventions within scope of practice.
* Support medication monitoring, education, and coordination with prescribers as appropriate.
* Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, suicide risk screening, and safety planning when required.
* Support youth experiencing challenges such as:
* Complex trauma
* Anxiety, depression, and mood disorders
* Substance use concerns
* Self-harm risk
* Neurodevelopmental and concurrent disorders
* Behavioral and emotional dysregulation

*Support for Children and Youth in Care*

* Provide specialized support informed by the impacts of trauma, attachment disruption, and adverse childhood experiences.
* Collaborate with caregivers, youth support workers, social workers, clinicians, and community partners to support stability and permanency planning.
* Contribute to case planning and participate in care team or circle of care meetings.
* Support transitions, placement stability, and therapeutic responses that reduce escalation and placement breakdown.

*Consultation, Coaching & Capacity Building*

* Provide consultation and guidance to frontline staff supporting children and youth with complex needs.
* Offer coaching related to trauma-informed practice, mental health support strategies, and therapeutic approaches.
* Support staff with behavior interpretation, regulation strategies, and crisis response planning.
* Contribute to skill-building and education for caregivers and teams.

*Requirements*

* Current registration in good standing with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
* Diploma or Degree in Psychiatric Nursing.
* Minimum 2–3 years experience in mental health practice with children and youth (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
* Demonstrated experience supporting complex mental health, trauma, and behavioral needs.
* Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
* Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Ministry HUB clearance.

*Preferred*

* Experience supporting children and youth in care, staffed resources, residential care, or community-based child and youth services.
* Experience in trauma-informed, attachment-based, harm reduction, and culturally safe practice.
* Non-violent crisis intervention
* Suicide intervention (ASIST/SafeTALK)
* DBT-informed or CBT-informed approaches
* Collaborative problem solving
* Substance use and concurrent disorders
* Indigenous cultural safety and humility

*Working Conditions*

* Community, residential, and remote work environments
* Some evening/weekend flexibility may be required.
* Participation in on-call rotation and/or consultation may be required
* May involve supporting youth experiencing crisis, behavioral escalation, or high-acuity mental health needs.

Applicants outside of Kamloops will be considered, but must reside in one of our current operating regions consisting of Vernon, Kelowna, Kamloops, or Williams Lake.

Pay: $41.42-$55.91 per hour
