Role Description The Marine Autonomous Field Systems Integration Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Nanaimo, BC. This role is responsible for integrating, testing, and commissioning autonomous marine systems on uncrewed surface vessels, including hardware, software, sensors, and communication equipment. The specialist will perform field deployments, troubleshoot system issues, conduct sea trials, and validate performance against operational requirements. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with engineering and operations teams, maintaining detailed documentation of configurations and test results, and supporting training and handover to end users. The role also involves ensuring safe marine operations, adhering to regulatory and safety standards, and providing feedback to improve system reliability and mission effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Marine operations experience, including vessel handling and familiarity with maritime safety practices.
- Background in Navy or defense-related maritime operations, or equivalent experience in complex coastal or littoral environments.
- Hands-on experience with boats and marine systems, including onboard sensors, navigation, and communication equipment.
- Understanding of maritime regulations, coastal operations, and threat response in the littoral battlespace.
- Ability to deliver training and support to operators and clients on system use, deployment, and basic troubleshooting.
- Relevant technical education (e.g., marine engineering, systems engineering, robotics, or related field) or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills in field conditions, including comfort working on the water and in varying weather.
- Effective communication skills, collaborative mindset, and ability to document procedures and test results clearly.
- Experience with autonomous systems, control systems, or ISR platforms is an asset.
- Eligibility to work on-site in Nanaimo, BC and to participate in marine operations and field deployments.
