Overview

Reporting to the Associate Director, Financial Services, the Law Clerk will work alongside our leading legal professionals to support financial services transactions. The successful candidate will be based out of Ottawa, Toronto, or work remotely within Ontario.

Major Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with legal professionals at the firm on various financial services transactions
  • Conduct Personal Property Security Act (“PPSA”) searches and registrations across Canada
  • Provide transactional support to legal professionals at the firm, including managing closing agendas and deliverables, drafting corporate consents, resolutions, and certificates, assisting with the execution and closing of financing transactions, and preparing closing records
  • Organize and maintain client files and records using the firm’s document management system
  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and third parties, as directed
  • Manage competing requests and meet deadlines while protecting confidential and sensitive data in compliance with firm security protocols
  • Assist with the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of new technologies for financial services transactions, as appropriate
  • Contribute to the continued design and improvement of our enhanced service delivery model for clients
  • Undertake projects and other responsibilities on an as‑needed basis

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

This position requires completion of a Law Clerk diploma or a university or college diploma in a business or legal discipline with 1–3 years’ experience in a fast‑paced legal environment, preferably in a large corporate law firm. Membership in a professional organization (e.g., The Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario) is an asset. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be acceptable.
