Business Development Manager - Personal & Commercial Underwriting
Location: Ottawa Region
Compensation: $100,000 - $120,000 (based on experience)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced and relationship-driven Business Development Manager to support the growth of both Personal and Commercial Lines across the Ottawa region. This role is suited for an individual with deep industry knowledge, strong market presence, and a proven ability to build pipelines, develop partnerships, and drive sustainable revenue growth.
The successful candidate will represent the organization in the marketplace, build strong relationships with external partners, and collaborate internally to support profitable expansion.
Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute business development strategies to increase Personal and Commercial Lines opportunities across the region.
• Build, manage, and grow a prospect pipeline through networking, referrals, outreach, and strategic partnerships.
• Meet regularly with clients, prospects, and industry partners in person to promote the organization's value, expertise, and capabilities.
• Identify new market opportunities and emerging trends to inform strategic planning and sales initiatives.
• Support producers, account managers, and underwriting teams by providing market intelligence and facilitating introductions.
• Lead and participate in industry events, networking functions, and community engagements to expand brand presence.
• Collaborate with leadership to set growth targets, measure performance, and support revenue forecasting.
• Maintain detailed records of activities, opportunities, and results using CRM tools.

• 5+ years of insurance industry experience, with strong Personal Lines and minimum 3+ years of commercial lines experience.
• Proven track record of building relationships and developing new business pipelines.
• Strong understanding of brokerage workflows, underwriting requirements, and client needs.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
• Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and comfortable operating independently in a field-focused role.
• Ability to attend in-person meetings, events, and industry functions across the Ottawa region.
• Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
