Nature of the work

The principal and customary work of an employee in this class of employment consists in being responsible for executing all the preventive and physical maintenance of an educational institution or building, and this responsibility is assumed on an area of less than 9275 m2.

This role also includes organizing and carrying out such work, as well as coordinating and supervising these tasks when they are performed with or by other employees.

Characteristic functions

• Ensure the cleanliness of the premises; organize and perform cleaning tasks according to the schedule established in collaboration with your supervisor.
• Perform maintenance on cleaning devices and equipment.
• Order the materials, products, and equipment required for maintenance tasks; keep an inventory; ensure compliance with standards for the use, storage, and safe disposal of products.
• Prepare classrooms and spaces, move and repair furniture.
• Assemble and install equipment.
• Ensure the good condition of the building and monitor the functioning of its equipment; conduct basic inspections of lighting systems, heating, ventilation, emergency lighting, and fire extinguishers.
• Perform minor or temporary repairs; report damage and ensure that repair work is completed, including follow-up on completed tasks.
• Ensure adequate security against theft or fire.
• May be required to coordinate and supervise work performed by other employees.
• May be required to lift loads up to 25 kg.
• May be required to use a computer and various software necessary for the performance of their duties.
• Perform any other related tasks as needed

Experience

• Have three (3) years of pertinent experience.

Practical skills

• Have a general knowledge of the operation of the heating, ventilation, lighting and alarm systems that a caretaker oversees.
• Have a basic knowledge of the main building trades.
• Have a basic knowledge of spoken English.
