Title: Business Analyst (Insurance Sector)
Duration: 6 months contract
Location: hybrid mode (Montreal OR Toronto)
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end business analysis across initiatives spanning reinsurance operations, finance, underwriting interfaces, claims interactions, reporting, and integrations.
- Apply BABOK practices to plan business analysis activities, manage requirements lifecycle, and ensure traceability from business objectives to delivered functionality.
- Elicit, analyze, and document requirements using BABOK techniques (workshops, interviews, process modeling, prototyping, user stories, use cases).
- Translate needs into functional requirements, non-functional requirements (performance, security, availability, controls), business rules, and acceptance criteria that are testable and measurable.
- Define current-state and future-state process flows (BPMN or equivalent), operational procedures, and data flows; identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Partner with architects, developers, QA/QE, and product owners to shape functional design decisions, ensuring solutions meet business outcomes and are buildable, testable, and operable.
- Influence solution design by clarifying end-to-end impacts, edge cases, dependencies, and control implications; drive trade-off decisions and document outcomes.
- Support SDLC governance including backlog refinement, sprint planning, defect triage, UAT planning/execution, and release readiness.
- Ensure requirements, test scenarios, and automation assets remain aligned through end-to-end traceability.
- Write and execute queries to extract and validate data (e.g., SQL) to support requirements validation, reconciliation, defect investigation, and operational reporting needs.
- Perform data mapping and transformation analysis for interfaces and integrations; validate outputs against expected business rules and control requirements.
- Support root-cause analysis by correlating system behavior, process steps, and underlying data.
- Manage relationships with senior business stakeholders, technology leads, and operational teams; ensure consistent alignment and timely decision-making.
- Facilitate workshops and produce clear, executive-ready communications (status, risks, dependencies, decisions, and options).
- Act as a translator between technical and non-technical audiences, simplifying complex concepts while preserving accuracy.
- Leverage AI tools and methodologies to accelerate requirements discovery, documentation, analysis, and validation while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality.
- Build reusable BA accelerators (prompt patterns, templates, checklists) to increase productivity and improve consistency across deliverables.
- Apply AI-supported approaches for insight generation (trend analysis, anomaly identification, scenario comparison) to enhance decision-making
- Promote responsible AI usage (data handling, verification, auditability) aligned with enterprise policy.
- Collaborate with engineering and QE teams to ensure requirements support CI/CD delivery, automation readiness, and robust quality gates
- Contribute to test strategy inputs (test scenarios, data requirements, UAT scripts) and ensure traceability within tooling (e.g., Jira/Zephyr or equivalent)
- Participate in defining acceptance thresholds and release criteria, including evidence requirements for controlled environments.
Required Technical Skills:
- Strong working knowledge of BABOK knowledge areas: Business Analysis Planning & Monitoring, Elicitation & Collaboration, Requirements Life Cycle Management, Strategy Analysis, Requirements Analysis & Design Definition, Solution Evaluation.
- Expertise in defining and managing business requirements, stakeholder requirements, solution requirements (functional/non-functional), and transition requirements
- Experience producing: user stories, use cases, process maps, business rules catalog, acceptance criteria, traceability matrix, and supporting documentation.
- Strong data skills including the ability to write and optimize queries (SQL) to extract, validate, and reconcile data.
- Working knowledge of APIs (REST concepts), interface processing, data mapping, and integration dependencies.
- Ability to analyze logs and outputs to support defect triage and root cause analysis (in partnership with engineering).
- Strong understanding of SDLC across Agile and hybrid models (Scrum/Kanban with governance controls).
- Working knowledge of CI/CD concepts (pipelines, environments, automated gates, versioning, release readiness).
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and practices (API/UI automation concepts, regression strategy, test data considerations, evidence capture).
- Proficiency with delivery and documentation tools such as Jira and Confluence (Zephyr or equivalent test management tools are an asset).
- Demonstrated ability to use AI tools to improve productivity (drafting, summarization, analysis acceleration, documentation, validation support).
- Ability to apply structured prompting and quality controls so outputs remain accurate, secure, and auditable.
- 7+ years of IT Business Analyst experience, with strong Reinsurance knowledge and Insurance experience.
- Experience operating in regulated or control-driven environments (e.g., IFC/SOX) is preferred.
- Certifications (nice-to-have): CBAP/CCBA, PMI-PBA, Agile/Scrum certifications
