About Balsam Care

Balsam Care is a not-for-profit organization providing provincially funded, community-based housing and support services for adults with disabilities and complex support needs. We are committed to person-centered, trauma-informed, and rights-based care and play an active role in Nova Scotia’s system transformation aligned with The Remedy.

The Role

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO provides overall strategic, operational, and financial leadership for Balsam Care. The CEO leads organizational performance, service quality, and system transformation while ensuring accountability, compliance, and long-term sustainability.

Key Accountabilities
  • Provide strategic and executive leadership aligned with the organization’s mission and Board priorities
  • Lead transformation initiatives supporting community-based, inclusive service models
  • Oversee all programs and services to ensure safe, ethical, high-quality, and compliant operations
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, including reporting on performance, risk, and finances
  • Lead and support the senior leadership team and foster an inclusive, healthy workplace culture
  • Ensure strong financial stewardship, risk management, and accountability for public funding
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with government, partners, families, and communities
Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary education in health, social services, public or business administration (graduate degree an asset)
  • 7+ years of senior executive leadership experience in health, social services, or a related public or not-for‑profit sector
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex organizations through change
  • Strong governance, financial, and relationship‑management skills
  • Commitment to person-centered, trauma-informed, and rights-based practice
