About the Position
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and supporting the Controller, this role focuses on maintaining the integrity of CCSA's financial records, supporting month-end and year-end processes, and ensuring timely and accurate accounting for a nonprofit environment. The Accountant is responsible for core accounting activities including reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable support, financial reporting support, budget related tasks and assistance with audit and compliance requirements.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, experience in nonprofit organizations and a commitment to mission-driven work.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Support the Controller in day-to-day accounting operations and month-end close activities
Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation
Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations on a timely basis
Assist with accounts payable processing, coding, review, and issue resolution
Support accounts receivable tracking, cash receipts, and related reconciliations
Maintain accurate general ledger records and ensure transactions are properly classified
Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, schedules, and variance analyses
Support restricted fund, grant, and program-related accounting as applicable in a nonprofit setting
Assist with year-end audit preparation, working papers, and external auditor requests
Help maintain and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and documentation
Support budget tracking and reporting in coordination with the Controller and leadership team
Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and nonprofit reporting requirements
Assist with continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function.
Provide backup support for other accounting and administrative finance processes as needed

Qualifications
Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma in finance, business or a related field, or a combination of education and experience
Minimum 4 years of experience in a finance environment with nonprofit organizations as well as progressive experience in similar functions
Experience in variance analysis in a project-based financial statement environment
Expert Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to data mine
Strong written communication skills, with a high degree of tact and diplomacy to deal with high-profile external contacts
Strong written communication skills to use plain language to support internal clients with their financial literacy.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan and carry out broad assignments in a collaborative environment, ensuring their timely completion
Complex problem-solving skills that include probing for information to determine the nature of the problem, developing unique solutions and comprehending complex material
Demonstrated ability to work in a growing and evolving finance function
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and SAP Concur
Assets
CPA designation, or working towards the CPA designation
Bilingualism in English and French
Working Conditions
Frequent/regular communication with internal staff to inquire, clarify and educate on finance related topics or processes; occasional communication with external contacts to obtain or provide information
Occasional high-intensity concentration required to analyze data, compile reports, etc.
Occasional mental attention to handle multiple urgent demands/deadlines pressures and/or perform detail-oriented work with regular interruptions.
