The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School, which plays a criticalrole in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $76 million in research funding per year, including more than $31.5 million held at DLSPH, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change [response], implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention through [and] wellness such as with diabetes, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas.

Your opportunity:

The JFD/ECD Project Coordinator will lead the management of two programs stewarded by the Dalla Lana School of Public Health: the Epidemiology of Communicable Diseases training program (ECD), and the Junior Faculty Development program (JFD).

The goal of the Junior Faculty Development program (JFD), co-hosted by the Centre for Global Health at the DLSPH and Moi University School of Public Health (MUSPH) in Kenya, is a prestigious opportunity to develop capacity on both ends to support on-going, broader, deeper training of faculty, networking, collaboration, and on-going mentorship and community of practice on public health and health systems infrastructure, governance, etc. The program is currently in its design phase and recommendations for its expansion will be developed in collaboration with partnering organizations.

The Epidemiology of Communicable Diseases training program (ECD), co-hosted by the Centre for Global Health at the DLSPH and the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), is a prestigious opportunity to develop a cooperative master’s program in Mathematical Epidemiology. This program will address the critical need for advanced mathematical modeling and data analysis skills for diseases and health conditions. The program will young African women and men with the skills and knowledge necessary for quality health sector research and the design of policies and actions needed to improve health outcomes. The program will begin in 2024 and recommendations for its expansion will be developed in collaboration with partnering organizations.

As Project Coordinator, you will be part of a dynamic team and help to support the design, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of these two programs. Your strong project coordination skills will enable you to track and report on project progress, coordinate project working groups, analyze performance metrics and find operational solutions to project challenges. Your background and experience supporting research projects will contribute to advancing the overall goals and initiatives of the program.

Your responsibilities will include:


  • Responding to enquiries and resolving issues, escalating problems as required;
  • Tracking and collecting information on project progress andanalyzing performance metrics;
  • Collating and organizing data for reports as well as updating and maintaining database records;
  • Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items as well as exchanging information in progress meetings;
  • Writing and editing (project documentation, standard operating procedures and correspondence);
  • Researching, analyzing and recommending changes to operational processes and solutions to project challenges;
  • Collaborating on cost estimates and making minor purchases.


Essential Qualifications:


  • Advanced College Diploma in a related field, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant work experience in project coordination in a research setting;
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and organizing tasks for large projects and recommending new processes and procedures to streamline operations;
  • Demonstrated experience collating and organizing data for reports, using large datasets;
  • Demonstrated experience drafting correspondence and documentation, assisting with grant and funding applications;
  • Demonstrated experience fostering positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Experience coordinating meeting schedules, resolving scheduling conflicts, taking minutes and reporting on project progress;
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of projects that focus on curriculum development;
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of projects that integrate leadership;
  • Demonstrated experience in program evaluation.
  • Strong research and analytical skills as well as demonstrated initiative and a strong commitment to research work
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communications skills (oral and written) with an ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with multiple groups
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to learn new skills and learn inputs from multidisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
