Job Details:

Position Title: Supervisor, Humber Child Development Centre

Status: PT Admin - 1-Year Contract (possibility of renewal)

Hours: Up to 24 hours per week

Faculty: Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness

Campus/Location: North Campus

Salary: $38.66 - $48.32

What you will do:

Reporting to the Director, Humber Child Development Centre, the Supervisor, Humber Child Development Centre, will be the designate and is responsible for monitoring the ongoing daily operations of the childcare centre. The incumbent will provide leadership, guidance and effective role modelling to the Early Childhood Educators, Cooks, and practicum placement students as they carry out a quality program in accordance with established guidelines set out in the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) 2014, Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI) 2014, Toronto Public Health and Fire Regulations, Employment Standards Act (2000), Humber’s Early Childhood Education Department within the School of Health Sciences and Wellness.

The incumbent must adhere to the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE) Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice as they communicate effectively and promote a professional image to children, families, employees, practicum placement students, Humber College personnel and members of the community on a regular basis. This position requires registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators – in good standing, a cleared Police Vulnerable Sector Check, successful completion of medical and T.B./Chest X-Ray, and current CPR/First Aid Training.

Key duties include, but not limited to:

  • Monitors the operation of the daily program and assesses the physical environment daily and takes immediate action to remedy any situation deemed unsafe.
  • Adheres to the CECE Code and Standards to exemplify professionalism, excellent communication (including the ability to resolve minor conflicts and effectively problem solve) and role modeling for children, families, employees, practicum placement students, Humber College personnel and members of the community on a regular basis.
  • Creates contracts, requisitions, offers of employment with Human Resources.
  • Throughout the day, monitors, allocates and revises schedule to ensure adequate staff ratios are maintained and met in accordance with the CCEYA.
  • Supports practicum placement students, as well as conducts their orientation.
  • Manages the intake of parent fees and ensures financial records of families are current and accounts are balanced.
  • Monitors children’s attendance and submits monthly reports to Toronto Children’s Services monthly attendance.
  • Supports Humber’s Every Child Belongs unit with children and family referrals.


What you bring to the role:

Education:

The successful candidate will have an Early Childhood Education Diploma.

Must maintain registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators.

Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ recent experience in similar role.
  • Previous experience in an early childhood education setting, preferably in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Experience working with children, families, and diverse communities.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with relevant childcare regulations and standards, including CCEYA and AQI.
  • Experience assessing and maintaining a safe physical environment in a childcare setting.
  • Excellent communication skills.
