Primary Purpose
The Library Systems Analyst is responsible for the effective management and configuration of library applications to support the teaching, learning, and research needs of the University of Saskatchewan community.
Nature of Work
The Library Systems Analyst works as part of a professional IT (Information Technology) services team to provide business analysis, systems configuration, user support, and training for library applications. The Library Systems Analyst is responsible for business analysis, requirements gathering, documentation, and testing of solutions that meet current and future client needs. The position is regularly tasked with solving complex, challenging business problems. The ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative team member, and to appropriately prioritize response to a variety of time-sensitive tasks is required. Continual learning, mentoring, and knowledge sharing are key components of the position.
Working with Library and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) staff, the Library Systems Analyst is responsible for implementing and/or configuring new systems for the Library as well as the enhancement, maintenance, and support of existing ones. Systems used include vendor on-premises and cloud software solutions, open-source software, and in-house custom applications and tools using development frameworks. This position currently focuses on maintaining and enhancing the library management system and catalogue systems in support of our University Plan 2025 to be the university the world needs (nīkānītān manācihitowinihk; ni manachīhitoonaan).
Periodic evening or weekend work is involved, which will be balanced with flex time considerations.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities
- Acts as an initial point of contact for integrated library system questions and queries
- Provides configuration, system expertise, system upgrades and management of library system(s), including the library management system and catalogue.
- Assists library with decision making by the collecting, analyzing, and presenting data related to supported applications
- Develops and maintains data loaders and other data integration and migration tools for library systems
- Works with team members and library employees to ensure integration of library systems with other campus and library systems such as access and discovery layers (e.g., Primo)
- Executes and supports requirements gathering, business analysis, testing, and training of new tools for employees.
- Analyses and provides advice on workflow designs for library applications, and implements them
- Works with vendors and central IT to enable technical integration of systems
- Ensures library employees (librarians and library assistants) receive training on system functions and associated applications appropriate to their position
- Applies and supports IT security best practices to protect the University, the Library, and its clients’ privacy and reputation
Education and Experience:
Career progression as a system or business analyst demonstrating increasingly independent accountabilities; substantive positions involving supporting library information systems or information technology would be highly beneficial.
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years relevant experience is preferred. We appreciate that non-traditional career paths may have developed a candidate’s competency, and alternate combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Expertise and/or familiarity with several of the skills below would be an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in requirements analysis and process analysis and design
- Experience developing and delivering training programs
- vendor software implementation, administration, and customization experience
- understanding of library technical practices
- Experience with online cataloguing, electronic resources, and patron web services
- Experience with data design and reporting systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
